NORWICH 1965

ALUMS OF ‘65  – “A BAND OF BROTHERS”

Dear Classmates,

Our 60th Reunion Homecoming will be here soon, Thursday, September 18th to Sunday, September 21st. Please come back to The Hill to see each other and meet the current Norwich students. As always, a wide variety of events are planned throughout the weekend. Some remain as they have been for years – the Alumni Parade line-up is Saturday morning at 9 a.m. sharp! Homecoming HQ is now in Milano Ballroom, and this will be the third year of the Bonds of Gold – Legacy ring melt ceremony in Mack Hall on Friday.

At this reunion, we celebrate our classmate and Class Agent Emeritus, George Giering as Norwich recognizes his steadfast support to our school by honoring him with his name engraved on the Harmon Wall. The Harmon Wall ceremony is on Friday, at 3:15 pm in White Chapel. Immediately following the ceremony, head up to the outdoor seats on the Upper Parade Ground for the Review and Retreat Parade at 4:15 pm.

The class will join all the Old Guard for the Welcome Dinner on Friday and the Class of 1965 Dinner on Saturday will take place at the newly refurbished Capitol Plaza in Montpelier.

The weekend concludes with the Athletic Hall of Fame Inductions and Brunch on Sunday morning. Classmate Bob Priestly will be inducted for his contributions to Norwich hockey. Congratulations, Bob, well deserved. Your acting Class agents, Larry “Beetle” Bailey, and Bill Quinn will each receive the Sustained Service Award this year during the Alumni Parade. Paul Mercer[email protected], continues to maintain the class of ‘65 web page at Norwich1965.com

If you have not already, please make a gift honoring our 60th reunion. Early in his presidency, Lt. Gen Broadmeadow identified the growth of the endowment as one of his priorities to secure Norwich’s future. The Norwich endowment provides critical financial aid for students and strengthens our financial resilience, in perpetuity. The Norwich Fund and investment in the endowment work “hand and glove” to fund near term opportunities and longer-term growth to protect our students, our mission, and brand, into the next century. It seems appropriate that as we celebrate the past at our 60th reunion, we consider asking classmates to make a gift to endowment to secure the future of our alma mater so that Norwich will be around for the Class of 2026 to celebrate their 60th reunion.

There are numerous options to explore when considering how to make your reunion gift this year and all gifts count towards our class goal! You can make a gift by mailing a check to the Development Office at Norwich University, Attention Class of 1965 Reunion Gift or by the online giving website at www.norwich.edu. Make a 5-year pledge by indicating “make a pledge with recurring payments” on the form.

As you consider your reunion gift to Norwich, we encourage you to consider a planned gift. The most common planned gift is a bequest from your will or trust. You can make a gift of appreciated stock, or designate Norwich as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy. If you invest in a fixed-rate charitable gift annuity, you will receive an annual income. CGA’s and other planned gifts have attractive tax advantages as well. Using your IRA, you can make a “Qualified Charitable Distribution” (QCD) to make a gift which is tax-free, up to $108,000 annually.

See you on the Hill.
